Spotify Isn't Going Anywhere

The launch of Apple Music had just about every Spotify user thinking the same thing: "What will happen to Spotify?"

Spotify Isn't Going Anywhere

Spotify is Apple’s biggest competitor in the music streaming industry. They charge the same monthly price of $9.99, offer almost identical music catalogues and similar features app-wide. Many thought the launch of Apple Music would destroy Spotify altogether. But, Spotify is hitting back - hard. Over the past few weeks, they’ve announced some stunning new features to compete with Apple Music.

Running

Spotify has made a big push to become the go-to music service for casual and competitive runners alike. They launched an entire running section in their iOS app, including Running Playlists and Running Originals that adjust to your tempo automatically, so every step you take lands with a beat. Running Originals were produced by all-star producers like Tiesto and last over an hour each.

Running with Spotify

Nike+ Running has fully integrated Spotify Running into their app, allowing Spotify users to track their runs, earn Nike Fuel and listen to their favorite songs all from the same place.

Discover Weekly

Discover section of Spotify

Spotify launched a new personalized playlist called Discover Weekly that is automatically updated with new songs based on what you’ve listened to over the week. Spotify describes it as, “Your weekly mixtape of fresh music. Enjoy new discoveries and deep cuts chosen just for you. Updated every Monday, so save your favourites!”

Now

Spotify is rolling out a new organization method for their app, including a new section called Now. Now is the new start page for Spotify that helps you quickly find a song you’re in the mood for. From Spotify’s official announcement:

“From the time you wake up until tonight’s party, the Now start page serves you the right music day and night. Need a Monday morning playlist pick-me-up? Done. The right tunes to help you focus after lunch? We’ve got you covered. And because Now learns what you like, you’ll be sure to hear the right music – selected from our in-house experts and your personal collection – whatever the occasion. Recommendations will adapt over time to fit your taste and mood.”

Video and More

Spotify is also launching the addition of video, podcasts and much more to the app - allowing users to experience more than just music. It’s packed with clips from the likes of ABC, BBC, Comedy Central, ESPN, NBC, TED and Vice News - with more to come.
