How to Increase your Mac's Storage with Nifty MiniDrive

How to Increase your Mac's Storage with Nifty MiniDrive

If you’re like me, 128GB is not enough flash storage for everything you want to store on your MacBook. Cloud storage is an option, but I really want a way to increase the amount of local storage space I have without paying $200 extra for the 256GB MacBook models. That’s where Nifty MiniDrive comes in handy.

What's the Nifty MiniDrive?

Nifty MiniDrive is a MicroSD card adapter that sits flush in the SD slot of your MacBook, providing you with extra internal storage. Simply pop the Nifty MiniDrive into the SD Card slot on a MacBook and it mounts on your computer just like an external hard drive. It is also useful as a time machine backup disc. The MiniDrive is waterproof and shockproof, so it’ll survive catastrophe even if your Mac doesn’t. All this, and you’ll barely notice it’s there.

Nifty MiniDrive & MacBook Models

Nifty MiniDrive comes in different sizes to perfectly fit your machine. They are available for 13” and 15” Retina MacBook Pro, 13” MacBook Air and the older 13” and 15” Non-Retina MacBook Pros. The ones we carry at CityMac feature a aircraft-grade brushed aluminum finish to perfectly compliment your MacBook. The included hook allows you to easily pull the card back out, but a paperclip will do the trick if you lose it.

Nifty MiniDrive Storage Options

The MiniDrive comes with a 2-4GB microSD Card (depending on the model), but you can use it with any standard microSD card. This makes adding storage incredibly inexpensive. For example, a 64GB Samsung Evo microSD card is just $28.99 on Amazon and a 128GB one is just $79.99. After adding the cost of the MiniDrive, you can get an extra 64GB of storage for under $70 (or an extra 128GB for under $120, effectively doubling the storage of a 128GB machine to a total of 256GB).
