App Review: Minecraft Pocket Edition for iOS

Minecraft has become a well known and fun game for people of all ages to play. Along with being available on Xbox, PC and Mac - Minecraft is also available on iOS. The Minecraft Pocket Edition app is a great way to place all the creativity and fun of the Minecraft world directly in your pocket.

What is Minecraft?

If you have not heard of Minecraft, it is essentially a game that allows its players to build whatever they dream of. Unlike most games, Minecraft does not have levels or time limits. It is a crafting and creation game designed to let people build anything from houses, dungeons and even entire cities. Minecraft's open world design, unlimited crafting abilities and simple, yet appealing 3D 8-bit design has led it to be one of the most popular and valuable games of all-time.

Minecraft Game Modes

Survival Game Mode

Even though Minecraft is an open world game, it does have two game mode types. Depending which game mode you are on, either Survival or Creative, it will be more or less difficult to achieve your building desires. The Survival game mode makes you work for your crafting materials. You start out the game with nothing, except a goal of finding shelter before night falls and the creepers, spiders, zombies and other monsters come out to get you. If you die in Survival mode, you simply respawn instead of losing progress like in some games. The catch is to keep your materials saved in storage chests so that you don’t lose them if you die. To build your house or shelter, you will need to gather materials from objects in the world, such as wood, rocks, water and more.

Creative Game Mode

The other game mode is Creative. This mode is more simple and allows you to have as greater, easier access to materials. In creative mode, no creatures or enemies come out to attack you at night. Creative mode allows you to build that dream house or city quicker than in Survival.

Minecraft Multiplayer

If you think it would be more fun to play Minecraft with other people, it is possible. For Minecraft Pocket Edition on iOS, just make sure both players are on the same WiFi network. You can change your name from the default and be able to identify other players from each other. Keep in mind that the game data will be stored on the device which was used to create that particular world. If you are playing with multiple players and the host's battery dies or the host exits Minecraft, all other players will be kicked off. The data auto-saves, so no need to worry - just start the world back up on the host device and you all are good to go.

Minecraft's Recent Popularity

As a result of the increasing popularity Minecraft has built up over the last few years, Microsoft acquired the company behind Minecraft, Mojang, last year for $2.5 billion. There is no secret that Minecraft is and will be an important game for a long time. It is currently one of the most popular computer games ever created. With the ability to build a mansion, mine for minerals and do pretty much whatever you set your goals at, there is no limit to what you can create!

playing Minecraft

Minecraft is an excellent game that will offer endless hours of gameplay for you and your family and friends. I have spent several hours playing Minecraft with friends and family. I’ve also had a great time learning about the game and playing it! I definitely recommend everyone who enjoys games on their iOS device to give it a try. Minecraft is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It is $6.99, a bit on the pricey side for games on the App Store, but I believe it is worth the price for a game that will offer tons of hours of fun.
