Apple Announces 2016 Worldwide Developer's Conference

Apple announces 2016 WWDC

Apple’s WWDC, Worldwide Developer's Conference, has been announced for June 13 - 17, 2016. During previous WWDC keynotes, Apple has announced new products, software and services. Let's take a look at possible things Apple could announce at this year's keynote.

Likely to be Announced

iOS 10

Apple has announced the latest version of iOS, the operating system for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches, in previous WWDC years, allowing developers to get early access to beta versions of the new software. Last year during the WWDC keynote, Apple introduced iOS 9. This year, there is a good chance that Apple will announce iOS 10, and release betas to developers before the usual Fall launch of new iOS software.

Mac OS X 10.12

Like with iOS, in previous years, Apple has shown off a new version of OS X and given developers access to beta versions of the new software before a Fall launch. This year, if Apple would keep the same numbering scheme, the next version of OS X could be 10.12. However, there have been rumors that Apple may change the name of OS X to MacOS. This would go along their other operating systems of watchOS, tvOS, and iOS.

tvOS and watchOS

Two operating systems besides iOS and OS X are tvOS and watchOS. Being that the 4th generation Apple TV was introduced in 2015, and the Apple Watch went on sale in 2015, there is a relatively good chance Apple will share updates to both tvOS and watchOS.

Less Likely to be Announced

New Macs

In April 2015, the new ultra-thin MacBook went on sale. Since then, it has not been updated. Being that the new MacBook is Apple’s newest Mac notebook computer, there is a good chance that it will see an update during this event.

Along with the possible updates to the MacBook, if Apple decides to give the Mac line stage time during the keynote, there is a good chance we could see updates to other Mac models, such as the Mac mini, last updated in 2014, and the Mac Pro, which has not been updated since 2013.

Apple’s Thunderbolt Display is currently the only stand-alone monitor that Apple makes. Being that it has not been updated since 2011, there is a good chance that it could be updated in the near future, if not at WWDC.

However, being that WWDC is a developer’s conference based on software, if there are no updates to the Mac product line, it would not be too surprising. Some products that have been announced at WWDC in years past include the new Mac Pro in 2013, 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro in 2012, and the iPhone 4 in 2010.
