Apple Special Event March 2016 – What Could Happen?

Apple's Special Event March 2016 - What Could Happen?

Apple has announced that they will be holding an event on March 21, 2016 at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. Rumors have been circulating of new products that may be released during this Spring event. Let's take a look at the most likely and unlikely updates we'll see later this month.

Likely to Be Announced

iPad Air 3

Possible iPad Air 3

In 2015, Apple introduced the iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4, but have not announced an updated iPad Air model since 2014. There is a good chance that Apple will announce a new iPad Air 3 at the March Special Event with a faster processor, more RAM and other updates that could make the next iPad Air 3 a smaller version of the iPad Pro - including possible Apple Pencil support.

iPhone SE

Possible iPhone SE

Rumors have been floating around that Apple may announce a new iPhone to replace the iPhone 5s. Some rumors say that this new iPhone could be named iPhone SE. Currently, if a customer is looking for a 4-inch iPhone, the only option is an iPhone 5s, which was introduced in 2013. A new 4-inch model could replace the iPhone 5s and offer newer internal parts and a new design that would allow users who want a 4-inch iPhone to be more up-to-date in terms of speed and performance. Some rumors have suggested the new 4-inch iPhone model will feature design elements of both the iPhone 6 and 5s.

New Apple Watch Bands

Apple may announce new Apple Watch bands at the March Special Event. It is unclear what bands may be released, but there is a good chance we will see some new ones.

Unlikely to Be Announced

Updated Mac Pro

The current Mac Pro received a massive update in 2013, but has not seen an update since then. The Mac Pro will hopefully see an update sometime in 2016, but it seems unlikely that it will see a refresh during this upcoming event.

New Thunderbolt Display

The current Thunderbolt display has not been updated since 2011. It still uses USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 1 technology. Being that it has been around five years since the Thunderbolt Display has been updated, there is a good chance that it will be in 2016. An updated Thunderbolt Display could see updates with Thunderbolt 2 or 3 technology, USB 3.0 and a 5k Retina Display similar to the 27-inch iMacs. As in the case with the Mac Pro, it is unlikely we will see this update at the March event.

Live Stream

Apple will be streaming the March 21 event live on their website. The event will be held at 10 a.m. PST.
