One of the things that makes the Apple Watch great is the ability to download apps from the App Store. If you are new to your Apple Watch and are having difficulty downloading apps, follow along as we walk you through the process.
Installing Apps That Are Already On Your iPhone
First, let’s see which apps on your iPhone have Apple Watch support. On your iPhone, launch the Watch app. Once launched, under the My Watch tab, scroll down view a list of apps. These are going to be the apps that offer an Apple Watch app. If you have apps on your iPhone that offer an Apple Watch app, simply select the app and click the turn on switch for the option Show App on Apple Watch.
For the example in the screenshot below, I chose Instagram and then went to the Show App on Apple Watch switch. Once you turn this on, it will install Instagram, or the app you are choosing, on your Apple Watch. The Glances switch allows you to add the app to Glances on Apple Watch. Glances is where you slide up from the watch face to see quick information from multiple apps.
Finding New Apps for Apple Watch
If you do not have any apps that offer Apple Watch apps on your iPhone, or if you are are looking for new apps, click on the Featured tab in the Watch app. You can also search for apps in the Search tab.
When searching, you are able to type in the direct name of the app (ex: “Yummly”), or a keyword that the app you may be looking for is associated with (ex: “cooking apps”).
In addition to the Watch app, it is also possible to search for Apple Watch apps from the App Store on your iPhone. Apps that offer Apple Watch support are labeled as such in the App Store and even show screenshots of the Apple Watch app - just like how iPhone apps show screenshots of the app.
Once you find an app to download, simply download it as you normally would for your iPhone. If the app does not automatically appear on your Apple Watch, simply follow the directions above to install the app to the Apple Watch.
