Apple Release iTunes 12.2.1 to Fix iCloud Music Library and Beats1 Issues

Apple Release iTunes 12.2.1 to Fix iCloud Music Library and Beats 1 Issues

After a series of customer complaints, Apple has finally released an update to iTunes with a few fixes.

What Was Wrong with iTunes?

When Apple Music launched a few weeks ago, many users were complaining that the new iCloud Music Library feature unnecessarily classified iTunes Match songs as Apple Music songs. Apple Music files include a DRM that limits playback to iTunes or the Music app (see our post on the difference between iTunes Match and Apple Music). This means even songs users had purchased or downloaded legally would be converted to a restricted format.

What Does the Update Fix?

The iTunes update “Fixes an issue for iTunes Match users where iTunes incorrectly changed some songs from Match to Apple Music” as well as “Provides a way to correct a library problem affecting former iTunes Match subscribers.”

The update also addressed problems with the Beats1 radio station. Some users were experiencing dropped streams and had to restart iTunes to fix the issue. The latest update also “includes minor bug fixes and improvements for Beats 1”.
